Thrips

sap-suckers

Thrips are ANNOYING. They are TINY and you can’t see them, but you can see their damage - which is usually curled and distorted new leaves and flower buds. The singular of thrips is still thrips. One thrips. A million thrips.

Treatments can range from predatory bugs, neem oil, pyrethrum*, soap sprays and sticky traps (thrips are attracted to blue!) through to imidicloprid based systemic treatments**.

* pyrethrum is organic but is a broad spectrum killer and will kill ALL the bugs - and bees included.

**systemic treatments are absorbed by the plant, and the poison is transported throughout the plant so that the sap sucking insects ingest it when they chew. They are available as sprays or granules. Residues in flower pollens collected by bees can poison hives. Please use mindfully.
